We can all breathe a huge sigh of relief – Debrett’s, the modern authority on all matters of etiquette, social occasions, people of distinction and fine style, have announced that it is perfectly acceptable to serve takeaway food at dinner parties! Thank goodness we say. Let’s face it, we’ve all been secretly doing it for years but in a rather hush hush manner, but no longer do we have to feel guilty about not spending hours and hours in the kitchen producing a three course gourmet meal for our nearest and dearest. They have confirmed what we all really know to be true – it’s making the time to gather your friends together that’s the most important thing.
Debrett’s do specify however that a few simple rules must be followed:
- The food must be served on warm plates and on proper china, and
- you must not pass the food off as your own (how many of us are ever going to admit to doing that?!).
We love this quote on their website and think it sums up the whole spirit in which a dinner party should be held:
‘A guest never forgets the host who had treated him kindly’ Orson Welles
Of course the finishing touches make all the difference to making your guest feel extra special and that’s where we really excel. So next time you are planning to entertain, we’d love to help make your dinner party aspirations a reality.
