The sun comes out and everyone goes crazy for a barbeque, but we think having a picnic party for your friends is a more chilled out, stylish way to go. You don’t need to go further than your own back garden of course, but how lovely to arrange to meet your friends at a suitably gorgeous park (check out the National Trust website for ideas) and get everyone to pitch in?
Gather together a mish mash of brightly coloured cushions and scatter on top of some pretty blankets, throws or eiderdowns. If you are sat underneath a tree, hang brightly coloured paper lanterns from the branches, or tie balloons from bottles or hampers placed on the rugs.
You don’t have to sit on ground level of course… you can really go to town dressing your garden table for the ultimate picnic. Tie dyed fabrics are really on trend this summer – to make your very own work of art, just use on old sheet and follow these step by step instructions.
No time or inclination? Have a route around in your local haberdashery for a fabric that really catches your eye – much more interesting than a white paper tablecloth!
One of the best things about a picnic of course is that no-one has to sweat it out over a barbeque – everything can be prepared in advance or even easier, pop to your local deli and ask them to put together a selection for you. Couldn’t be easier!
If you are in mood to cook, here are a couple of our favourite recipes:
And to drink… It’s got to be pitchers of perfectly made Mojitos, or fizz mixed with elderflower liquor and finished with mint.
Hope this has inspired you to make the most of the glorious outdoors while the sun is shining – eating, drinking and laughing with friends in the sunshine – memories in the making!
